pricing guide - ruthenium plating

Ruthenium plating is the newest addition to our metal plating operations. Characterized by its "high-tech" gray-black look, ruthenium has attracted a great deal of interest due to its unique finish qualities. Used primarily over sterling silver items, ruthenium can also be plated onto a wide variety of other metal materials (i.e. steel bronze, brass). It has exceptional hardness and is highly resistant to scratches and incidental abrasion. Ruthenium finishes are very stable and offer very good resistance to surface oxidation and discoloring. As a result, some of our customers are using ruthenium as an alternative to "black nickel" finishes.

For long term stability ruthenium should not be plated directly onto silver, copper alloys, steel and other metals without a protective undercoating.

A final plated coating of .10-.20 microns of ruthenium, combined with proper pre-plating will produce an excellent long term finish for most decorative applications.
